HOOD is a video made by Tarquin Glass for the Robin Hood Tax campaign. It was entered into a short film competition and won two of the three available awards which were People’s Choice aswell as Judges’ Choice for best short.
I composed and performed the soundtrack for this in a playful vaudeville style with the honky tonk piano. I put the main melody as multiple whistles as a nod to the 7 Dwarves / Merry Men sort of comparison. The piece speeds up as the bike chase speeds up until it hits absolute purposeful mayhem. The scene then goes to silent movie style cards so I emphasized this build up with a crazy theatre organ on a massive leslie, until the conclusion is reached and the whistling resumes by one person – the banker who now is part of the group. The whistling then reaches a merry conclusion at the thought of a happy outcome of the banks giving back to the people.
This was a fun piece to work on and the messiness of the whistling is entirely purposeful to represent to the common people – the rag-tag crew that Robin Hood in this film has! I was glad to see it win the awards and gain a lot of views as it went viral across the internet.
