We found an accordion in the loft. It’s called GERALDO. The most amazing accordion-learning books came with it. It’s incredible. It’s all gold glittery and has mother of pearl (fake) keys!!
I heart it.
We had to put it on this track.
I think we put everything we could find in the studio on this track, including a £3 ‘lute’ that somebody bought on holiday in like, Gibralter once and thought the studio would benefit from it (this was about 19 years ago) and the strings haven’t been changed since then.
The riff is in fact played on this.
Got out the old flute skillz again for this one! So much fun!
The gloopy synth is supposed to sound like a sea monster on an bit of iceberg by itself in the north North Sea going “Oh whyyyyy, Why am I soooo lonely???”
The backing vocals in the funny timing middle 8 are supposed to sound like Vikings. Inspired by Scott Walker’s ‘The Old Man’s Back Again’. I just thought there ought to be more than one song that had Viking Backing Vocals.
I loved recording this song so much.
The outro was particularly fun. Alot of the piano is played by actually flicking the hammers onto the strings as we took the front off to mic it up.
Hammer-flicking. It’s not an exact science!!!
BUT DOES YOUR FOX TROT?!
