Acclaimed wedding cinematography company York Place Films sometimes commission Uncle Art Music to compose bespoke soundtracks for their clients. This means completely original music fitting to a 5-10 minute short film of the couple’s wedding day. This one of Fiona and Matt at Malton Lodge was especially interesting for us to do given that I, Holly, was actually performing as a pianist singer at the actual wedding itself. I played their First Dance which was ‘Hey There Delilah’ by the Plain White Tees which is why we incorporated that piece into that section of the video briefly (before launching into a raucous piece of heavy guitar, bass and drums for the out-of-the-blue mother of the groom with best man sexy dance routine!!). The beginning song is an Uncle Art original written for the video around a ticking clock in anticipation of the wedding ceremony. I really like the feel of the song, it’s very relaxed and easy and fits the couple and the way they are with each other perfectly. Simply together.

We kept the after-ceremony section quite classical as they depart in a classic car and the reception at the grand hall begins. And then we overlaid parts of the Groom’s really thoughtful speech over the top of some oohs and aahs. Then the First Dance, then the Sexy dance and then finally a sort of Pink Floyd-esque finale that builds and builds. I really like the 6/8 feel of the end piece as the film cuts to shorter and shorter clips almost like a memory bank of the evening as people became more intoxicated! We ended it with some good old feedback, which gives the real cinematic sense of ‘this is the end of the film, but it’s just the beginning for the couple’. We wish them all the best!
